  • Alumna Receives Presidential Award for Teaching Science

    Cal State Fullerton alumna Colette Masucci Bos, once was among a small cadre of women studying geological science. She is now one of a select cadre of K-12 educators to receive the Nation's highest teaching honor: the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching.

  • Excelencia Foundation Recognizes CSUF, Project Miss

    Cal State Fullerton was named an Example of Excelencia finalist by Excelencia in Education, a Washington, D.C.-based national nonprofit group dedicated to furthering Latinos' education in the U.S. The university's Project MISS (Mathematics Intensive Summer Session) for intermediate and high school girls -- most of whom are Hispanic -- was cited in the recognition.

    Rebecca Shambaugh, businesswoman and author of "It's Not a Glass Ceiling, It's a Sticky Floor" (McGraw-Hill, 2007), will discuss how women can tap their resilience to move up in the business world, during a Tuesday, Dec. 7, program hosted by Cal State Fullerton's Mihaylo College of Business and Economics and sponsored by Wells Fargo. It is part of the Mihaylo Distinguished Speaker Series.

  • Experts and Students to Discuss Stem Cell Science

    Stem cell experts from USC, UC Irvine and Children's Hospital of Orange County, as well as students in Cal State Fullerton's Bridges to Stem Cell Research Program, will discuss aspects of stem cell science and cell use through presentations and posters Friday, Dec. 3, at a free, open-to-the-public Bridges to Stem Cell Research 2010 Symposium at Cal State Fullerton.

That's one of the conclusions suggested by the annual Community Forum on the Condition of Children in Orange County, held Nov. 17 on campus. The forum, at which the annual Report on the Conditions of Children in Orange County was discussed, focused on keeping kids interested in and staying in school.

The three-day research event is part of university's Howard Hughes Medical Institute-supported program to find and recruit more biological science researchers.

    Shop24, Cal State Fullerton's newest food and retail store, opened Nov. 1 to serve the campus community around-the-clock. "It's a 24/7 convenience store in a box," said Frank A. Mumford, associate executive director of the university's Auxiliary Services Corp. Shop24 is a refrigerated, automated store, resembling a super-size vending machine, that offers 200 items weighing up to 8 pounds.

  • MFA-in-Screenwriting-first-in-CSU

    Beginning in fall 2011, graduate students interested in earning a master of fine arts degree in screenwriting will be able to do so -- at Cal State Fullerton. It is the first such degree program offered in the 23-campus California State University system.
