- Outstanding Staff
This year's Cal State Fullerton Outstanding Staff Award recipients are Gerald Bryant, director of the McNair Scholars program, Mony Nhong, analyst and programmer in the Information Technology Division, and Thao Nguyen, an information technology consultant in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
- Engineering Innovation Summer Program
Cal State Fullerton's College of Engineering and Computer Science is offering Engineering Innovation, a four-week summer program for high school students interested in learning more about becoming engineers.
- Transportation Fellowships Awarded
Five Cal State Fullerton civil and environmental engineering students have received Dwight David Eisenhower Hispanic-Serving Institutions Fellowship Program awards, totaling $30,500, for their research projects aimed at advancing the transportation industry.
- Mathematics Intensive Summer Session Begins
During the month of July, 156 girls from junior and senior high schools in Orange County and surrounding areas will participate in Cal State Fullerton's Project MISS. Now entering its 23nd year, the program gives students intensive mathematics instruction in geometry, algebra and pre-calculus -- and the confidence to succeed and reach the goal of earning a college education.
- Promoting the Health Professions
Twenty-eight Cal State Fullerton students are headed to medical and professional schools, thanks to their studies and the support of the Health Professions Advising Office.
- Rankings for Bachelor's Degrees Awarded to Minorities
Cal State Fullerton has moved up to No. 8 among universities nationwide for the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to minorities. The latest ranking, from ninth to eighth, was published in the June 7 edition of Diverse Issues in Higher Education's list of the 'Top 100 Degree Producers."

The Friends of Jazz 11th annual Mardi Gras fundraiser counted Cal State Fullerton members among attendees, performers and even its royal court.
- CSUF Professor Recites From New Book July 5
Poet Irena Praitis, a Cal State Fullerton professor of English, comparative literature and linguistics, will recite poetry from her new book, "Straws and Shadows" (Moon Tide Press, 2012), at a free, public event July 5 at the Muckenthaler Cultural Center.
- Student Wins Yamaha Music Prize
Marimba player Heejeong Shin, a junior music major at Cal State Fullerton, has been named a 2012 "Yamaha Young Performing Artist."
- Students Create Award-Winning Robotic Lawn Mower
Engineering students at CSUF took top awards with "Titan Rover" at the Institute of Navigation Robotic Lawn Mower Competition earlier this month.
- Federal Grant Supports Small-Business Network
Cal State Fullerton's Mihaylo College of Business and Economics has been awarded a $2.1 million U.S. Small Business Administration contract to continue to oversee the SBA's regional small-business development network for Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
- Farming at the Fullerton Arboretum
Visitors to the Fullerton Arboretum may be surprised to learn that in addition to the pond and wooded areas, the rose gardens and the carefully tended collection of cacti and succulents, the grounds also contain a working farm, complete with rows of vegetables, beehives and an orchard of more than 200 recently planted stone fruit trees.
- Students Create Formula Racing Vehicle
Cal State Fullerton mechanical engineering students and recent grads are putting their skills to the test with a formula-style race car.
- Fulbright Scholars
Six Cal State Fullerton faculty members have been named Fulbright Scholars this year. They join 23 other faculty members who have been named Fulbright Scholars since 2001.
- Summer School for Nonprofits
Cal State Fullerton's Gianneschi Center for Nonprofit Research hosts its seventh annual Summer School for Nonprofits July 10-13. The program will include a free Tuesday, July 10, tax seminar, as well as sessions on conflict resolution, leadership, marketing, building donors, special events, grant writing, risk management and supervising volunteers.
- Sociologist Named Fulbright Scholar
Dennis F. Berg, emeritus professor of sociology at Cal State Fullerton, has been named a Fulbright Scholar for the second time.
- University Singers Bon Voyage Concert
The CSUF University Singers will be touring Austria and Germany June 19-30 and headline the prestigious Ehinger Summer Music Festival in Germany June 29.
- Outstanding Staff Member Gerald Bryant
For the McNair Scholar program's success and for his care for, guidance and mentorship of McNair Scholars, Gerald Bryant has been chosen one of three recipients of this year's Outstanding Staff Award -- the highest university honor bestowed on staff members.
- Mendoza Named Interim VP, University Advancement
An accomplished professional with a stellar record of fundraising achievement for California State University has been named interim vice president for university advancement at California State University, Fullerton.
- Summer Program Provides Financial Education
Cal State Fullerton's Center for Economic Education hosts a June 18-22 Financial Fitness Summer Institute for incoming-ninth grade students from Valadez Middle School Academy in Placentia, Orangeview Junior High in Anaheim and Nicolas Junior High in Fullerton.
- Staff Members Earn Degrees
Thirteen Cal State Fullerton staff members completed college or university degrees or development programs this year. They were recognized during Staff Appreciation and Recognition Day.
- Car-Sharing Program To Begin in Fall
Cal State Fullerton will launch a vehicle-sharing program for campus members this fall. The program will be available to students, faculty and staff members for an annual membership fee as part of an agreement with WeCar by Enterprise.
- Thao Nguyen Named Outstanding Staff Member
Thao Nguyen is described as being self-motivated, helpful, inspiring, enthusiastic, a problem-solver and a "prized" staff member in the College of Engineering and Computer Science. Nguyen is one of three Cal State Fullerton staff members honored this year as Outstanding Staff Award recipients.
- Faculty and Staff Retirees Recognized
CSUF Interim President Willie Hagan and administrators recognized faculty and staff members during a recent retirement function that honored the years of dedicated service to the campus.
- Award Winners Head to Medical School
As Cal State Fullerton students, Nathan Bales and Christopher Brophy embarked on a path of study to become doctors. Along with their course work, they engaged in hospital volunteer efforts and other health-related activities that prepared them for the rigors of medical school. This August, both will begin fulfilling their dream at top medical schools.
- Alumna Nominated For Tony Award
Sunday's Tony Awards will see Cal State Fullerton graduate Linda Emond (B.A. theatre arts '82) in the company of cast mates Philip Seymour Hoffman and Andrew Garfield, plus director Mike Nichols -- all are nominated for Tonys for the Broadway revival of "Death of a Salesman."
- Honoring Staff for Years of Service
Cal State Fullerton honored its staff members for continuing service during the June 1 Staff Appreciation and Recognition Day in the Titan Student Union's Portola Pavilion, including those who have achieved the milestones of 40, 35, 30, 25, 20, 15, 10 and 5 years of service.

- Case Performs Shakespeare in Prague
Evelyn Carol Case, Cal State Fullerton lecturer in theatre and dance, is in Europe preparing to go on stage for her opening night performance in "Venus and Adonis" at the 2012 Prague Fringe Festival, playing June 5-9 at Na Pradle Theatre in Prague, Czech Republic.
- Target: Obesity
How parents decide what to feed their preschool-age children, how to promote healthy lifestyles in elementary schoolchildren and how to get kids to exercise as ways to combat obesity were a few of the topics discussed at Cal State Fullerton's recent "Obesity Prevention Through the Life Span: Reflections of the Past and Visions of the Future" symposium, sponsored by the university's College of Health and Human Development.

Music and Broadway musicals, retirement living and new vistas in science are among the topics covered in a series of free, public lectures offered this summer at Cal State Fullerton by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI).
