‘Wall of Heroes’ Nov. 8-10 Salutes Campus Veterans, Loved Ones

In a salute to campus veterans and family members in the military, Cal State Fullerton’s Veterans Student Services and Student Veterans Association are displaying a “Wall of Heroes” Monday, Nov. 8, through Wednesday, Nov. 10.

The triangular-shaped, red, white and blue wall, located next to Titan Shops, showcases 60 photos of students and staff, faculty and family members — sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters and other relatives — who have served or are currently serving in the military.

Photos are representative of men and women who served in times of peace and in war — from World War II to the current Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

The Wall of Heroes was erected in celebration of Veterans Day, Nov. 11, the day the nation honors and thanks all who served in the United States Armed Forces.

“As we pay tribute to veterans this week, we wanted to do something special to honor our campus veterans and bring awareness that we have veteran service members at the university,” said Joseph Chang, coordinator for veterans student services. “We also wanted to give the campus community a way to honor their loved ones.”

Student veterans helped create the project, which, in turn, gave them the opportunity to connect, build camaraderie and experience a sense of pride about their military service, said Chang, a U.S. Army veteran who served in Iraq.

“It’s been an empowering experience for our student veterans,” he said.

Faculty and staff members who submitted photos of themselves or loved ones also expressed appreciation for bringing attention the sacrifice and sense of duty of veterans, Chang added.

“Campus members were so excited and proud to send in their photos and share their loved ones stories on the wall. All of our veterans have given so much to our country.”

Next week’s tribute follows the Nov. 6 Veteran’s Day Celebration the university is hosting to honor those from Orange County who died fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
