Using Technology to Enhance Education to be Discussed

Richard Katz, founding director of the EDUCAUSE Center for Applied Research and author of “Scholars, Scholarship and the Scholarly Enterprise in the Digital Age,” will address ways to use the torrent of technology of the digital age for education Nov. 16 during Information Technology’s Tech Day.

Katz’s talk — at 10 a.m. in the Rotary Room 130 of the Pollak Library — is but one of several to be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in various rooms of the Library. Other discussions will cover: virtual servers and cloud computing, collaborating with other campuses on IT security and ways to make technology greener and more sustainable. An Information Learning Commons tour will be given.

“It’s been a while since the last time we were able to have an IT Tech Day as comprehensive as this one,” said Rommel Hidalgo, director of IT projects. “This one will showcase not just recent IT accomplishments and provide a forum for discussion on many technology subjects, but will cover new directions and projects that Amir Dabirian, chief information technology officer, is leading us to keep the campus on the leading edge of education technology.” Questions will be welcomed throughout.
