University Moves Up

CSUF Is No. 8 for Bachelor’s Degrees Awarded to Minorities

Cal State Fullerton has moved up to No. 8 among universities nationwide for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to minorities.

The latest ranking, from ninth to eighth, was published in the June 7 edition of Diverse Issues in Higher Education’s list of the “Top 100 Degree Producers.”

The ranking is based on data from the U.S. Department of Education about degrees awarded in 2010-11.

Cal State Fullerton is the highest ranked of the six CSU campuses in the top 20.

Beyond the overall ranking, Cal State Fullerton is also:

No. 4 nationwide for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Hispanics — the highest ranking for any university in California;

No. 11 for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded to Asian Americans; and No. 32 for the number of bachelor's degrees awarded to American Indians.

For specific degree programs, Cal State Fullerton also ranks:
No. 1 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • communication, journalism and related programs to Hispanics and minorities overall; and
  • public administration and social service professions to Hispanics.

No. 2 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • business administration, management and operations to Asian Americans and Hispanics;
  • communication, journalism and related programs to Asian Americans; and
  • parks, recreation, leisure and fitness studies to minorities overall.

No. 3 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • public administration and social service professions to Asian Americans and minorities overall.

No. 4 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • business administration, management and operations to minorities overall;
  • business management, marketing and related support services to Asian Americans; communication disorders sciences and services to Asian Americans; and
  • education to Asian Americans.

No. 5 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • education to Hispanics; and
  • parks, recreation, leisure and fitness studies to Asian Americans and Hispanics.

No. 6 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • business management, marketing and related support services to Hispanics and minorities overall; and
  • homeland security, law enforcement and related protective services to Asian Americans.

No. 7 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • education to minorities overall;
  • health professions and related programs to Asian Americans; and
  • homeland security, law enforcement and related protective services to Hispanics.

No. 8 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • communication, journalism and related programs to American Indians;
  • communication disorders sciences and services to minorities overall; and
  • health professions and related programs to Hispanics.

No. 9 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • communication disorders sciences and services to Hispanics; and
  • English and literature to Asian Americans.

No. 10 in the nation for the number of bachelor’s degrees awarded in:

  • business administration, management and operations to American Indians; and
  • liberal arts and sciences, general studies and the humanities to Hispanics.
