University Dedication
Campus Honors Faculty and Staff Retirees
Interim President Willie Hagan and administrators recognized faculty and staff members during a recent retirement function that honored the years of dedicated service to the campus.
Among the honorees was Norma Morris, who joined the university in September 1966, serving as a part-time clerical assistant in the Art Department and in the now-Department of Modern Languages and Literatures. She joined the President’s Office in 1980 and served through last year. She was the university’s first recipient of the Outstanding Staff Award in 1978.
Also honored for more than 40 years of service to Cal State Fullerton was George I. Cohn, professor of electrical engineering. Cohn was described as a pioneer in the field of microwave devices and electromagnetic theory when he joined the university in September 1968, following eight years as a professor of electrical engineering at the Illinois Institute of Technology and after serving in industry as a company president, technical director, program manager and section manager.
Also honored for more than 40 years of service, was alumna Andrea Cockrell (B.A. anthropology ’71), analyst-programmer in the College of Health and Human Development, who joined the university staff the same year she graduated.
Service Since the 1970s
Thomas Reins, lecturer in history, started teaching on campus in 1972, while Penni Wunderlich, administrative support assistant in History; Abel Zeballos, professor of theatre and dance; James Dietz, associate vice president of academic affairs; and Barbara Harnach, administrative analyst/specialist in the University Testing Center, all joined in 1973.
Ronald Clapper, lecturer in liberal studies, became a member of the university in 1974 and a year later, Paul DeLand, professor of mathematics; Louisa Jaimes, parking officer in Parking and Transportation Services; Thomas Grayson, administrative analyst/specialist in the Office of Capital Project Management; and Michael Steiner, professor of American studies, joined CSUF.
Patricia Craig, lecturer in art, began teaching on campus in 1978, a year before Michael Baldwin, air conditioning/refrigeration mechanic in Physical Plant; Claire Palmerino, associate dean in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences; and Kerry Hallas, library assistant in the Pollak Library, joined the university.
Honored for Service Since the 1980s
Robert Miyake, assistant dean of academic programs in the Mihaylo College of Business and Economics, joined the campus in 1980, as did Anthony Prince, special events coordinator in Parking and Transportation Services; and Mel Franks, senior associate athletics director/sports information director.
Tom Shigenaka, material coordinator in Logistical Services, came to campus in 1982, while Shannon Glaab, schedule coordinator in Academic Programs, Vickey Takeuchi, counselor in Financial Aid, and Roberta “Bobbie” Grayson, administrative support coordinator in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, began their CSUF careers in 1984.
Joining CSUF in 1985: Billie Smith, administrative support assistant in Physical Plant,
Silas Abrego, interim vice president for student affairs, and Zvi Drezner, professor of information systems and decision sciences. William B. Gearhart, professor of mathematics, and Jacquelyn Reynolds, administrative support assistant in Art, joined in 1986.
Serving since 1988 were Ronald Gillion, electrician, Physical Plant; Louise Adler, professor of educational leadership; and Suzanne Tappe, administrative coordinator, Information Systems and Decision Sciences. C. George Peale, professor of modern languages and literatures, and Jessica Schutte, acting director of financial aid, joined CSUF in 1989.
