Cal State Fullerton Prepares for May 23-24 Ceremonies

More than 11,000 grads and candidates for graduation are eligible to participate in Cal State Fullerton’s May 23-24 commencement ceremonies — the largest ever for CSUF. Attendees are expected to number more than 50,000 family members and friends during the weekend festivities.
Keynote speakers for the universitywide celebrations will be U.S. Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis and Jack O’Connell, state superintendent of public instruction. O’Connell, a 1973 Cal State Fullerton graduate, will address the Saturday, May 23, ceremony, while Solis, an alumna of Cal Poly Pomona, is scheduled for Sunday, May 24.
Both commencement ceremonies begin at 8 a.m. on the sports fields north of Titan Gym. College and department exercises and celebrations will follow at various locations throughout campus, 800 N. State College Blvd, Fullerton, 92831. (Times and locations listed below.)
Those eligible to don caps and gowns include January graduates, plus candidates for degrees awarded in May and August. Together, the 2,287 January graduates and candidates for graduation exceed 11,000.
Tickets are not needed for the all-university ceremonies at 8 a.m., but are required for admission to all college and department exercises/celebrations.
The ceremonies will be broadcast live on the Internet and may be viewed by visiting the Cal State Fullerton Web site: www.fullerton.edu. The ceremonies also will be televised live on Channel 98 in Fullerton, Placentia, Santa Ana and Seal Beach.
Leading the campus faculty marshals will be Mohinder S. Grewal, professor of electrical engineering and the university’s Outstanding Professor Award recipient for 2008-09. Faculty marshals, by college, are:

- Mihaylo College of Business and Economics -Chiranjeev Kohli, professor of marketing
- Communications - Shelley Jenkins, lecturer in radio-TV-film; Kenneth Tom, associate professor of human communication studies, and Fred Zandpour, professor of communications
- College of Education - Joann C. Carter-Wells, professor of reading
- College of Engineering and Computer Science - John Clymer, professor of electrical engineering
- College of Health and Human Development - Kenneth Ravizza, professor of kinesiology
- College of Humanities and Social Sciences - Craig Ihara, professor of philosophy
- College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics - Christopher R. Meyer, professor of chemistry and biochemistry.
