Working for California

CSUF Makes Broad Impact On Community

For almost 50 years, California State University, Fullerton has been educating leaders in Orange County, the state of California, across the nation and even throughout the world.

Indeed, one thing to emerge from a recent California State University economic impact report is that the 23-campus CSU system is “Working for California” as we educate thousands of students. As CSU Chancellor Charles B Reed noted, the study showed a dramatic and unparalleled impact on the economic, social, intellectual and cultural life of all of California. I also firmly believe in the value of the education we provide at Cal State Fullerton, one of the largest universities in the CSU system. There is no question that we play a significant role in educating the workforce of our community.

Many leaders of our community and state have received their education here. Our alumni include business leaders, nurses, teachers, doctors, elected officials, engineers, researchers, mathematicians, musicians, artists, writers, journalists, city planners and many others representing a wide range of fields. When we see the successes enjoyed by Cal State Fullerton students and alumni, it is easy to recognize how important Cal State Fullerton is to Orange County and the surrounding communities.

In addition, the CSU and Cal State Fullerton are committed to providing opportunities to diverse groups of students. Our student body consists of students representing a range of ethnicities, religions and cultures. By bringing together students from different backgrounds, future leaders are offered a better understanding of what to expect in today’s global economy and how to work together more cooperatively for the common good.

Each year, more and more students come to Cal State Fullerton to expand their educational and career horizons. Enrollment as of the first day of classes this year was 33,299, of which 3,914 were first-time freshmen. Approximately 3,000 students are attending classes at Cal State Fullerton’s Irvine Campus. In fact, cumulatively, more than 157,000 students have graduated from Cal State Fullerton as of June 2005.

In this special report, you’ll find stories highlighting a few of our outstanding alumni who pursued degree programs in the eight different colleges on campus: Arts, Business and Economics, Communications, Education, Engineering and Computer Science, Health and Human Development, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Natural Sciences and Mathematics.

We are justifiably proud of our alumni and the role they play in working for California. We also can be proud of the contribution that the faculty and staff of Cal State Fullerton play in preparing students for future success.
