Money Matters

BASEBALL —
$120,000

Cal State Fullerton's championship baseball team has captured four championships — most recently in 2004 — and reached the College World Series 14 times. Each year, the team spends about $10,000 on 2,592 baseballs ($3.86/ball) and another $25,000 on equipment (uniforms, bats, gloves, travel bags, shoes, etc.). The actual cost would be higher but the team receives some free equipment and supplies from athletic supply and shoe companies. Travel expenses, budgeted for 14 road trips, were $85,000 for the team (not including post-season play). (Source: Rob Scialdone, Athletic

POLICE FORCE —
$1.4 MILLION
