Money Matters

How Is The Money Being Spent?

Cal State Fullerton is similar to a city when it comes to its operations. In addition to obvious features such as classrooms, laboratories, library and bookstore, the campus houses its own physical plant operations, food court, a branch of the Orange County Teachers’ Federal Credit Union (as well as ATM machines), a performing arts complex, sports fields, a student health center, a university police force and student housing.

As the number of students seeking an education at Cal State Fullerton continues to grow, new classes must be offered, new professors hired and current classes updated. In areas such as engineering, computer science, communications and natural science, new technology must be purchased. Artists need kilns, studio space and art supplies. Performers need props, stages, costumes and lighting. Students also need computers. Musicians need instruments. Everyone needs books, software and tools specific to their areas of study. Many students receive medical care and counseling services through the university’s health center. Tutorial programs are offered. As in any other large, complex organization, the university requires a comprehensive information technology division, human resources, financial affairs and thousands of staff members to assist students in everything from registration to graduation checks. Listed here are a few examples of how the money was spent during the 2005-06 fiscal year
