Barua Named Acting Associate Dean
Computer Science Professor to Help Lead College of Engineering-Computer Science

Susamma Barua
Susamma Barua, professor of computer science since 1988 and coordinator of the Computer Engineering Program, has been named acting associate dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The appointment was effective Aug. 15.
Barua succeeds Dorota Huizinga, who now serves as associate vice president of graduate studies and research (link to story). In addition to her new responsibilities, Barua will continue to serve as coordinator of the Computer Engineering Program.
Barua served as a member of the Academic Senate from 1999 through 2002. She has served on a number of college and campuswide committees, including the Planning, Resource and Budget; University Curriculum; Faculty Development and Education Innovation; Faculty Affairs; and the Outstanding Professor Committee.
She received her doctorate in computer engineering from the University of Cincinnati in 1988. Barua earned her bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in 1981 from Regional Engineering College in Calicut, India, and her master’s degree in electrical engineering in 1984 from the University of Tulsa in Oklahoma.
Barua's research interests include computer performance analysis, parallel computing, computer networking, Web-based database development and interactive multimedia systems. She is the author of more than 30 technical articles and has supervised nearly 100 graduate research projects at CSUF.
