Accreditation Agency Officials Invite Public to Aug. 23 Open Meeting

August 3, 2010

The public is being invited to a Monday, Aug. 23, information session on the University Police Department's policies, procedures, management, operations and support services. The 5 p.m. program will take place in the University Police Building.

The session is being held by a team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. The assessors also will take public comments by phone from 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 23, at 657-278-4775. Written comments also are welcome and can be submitted to the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement, 13575 Healthcote Blvd., Suite 320, Gainesville, Virginia, 20155.

The meeting and phone session are part of the accreditation process for the University Police. The commission visits every three years to verify that the department continues to meet professional standards.

In 2001, Cal State Fullerton's Police Department became the first in the CSU system to be accredited by the commission. Its most recent reaccreditation was in 2007, when it was named a "Flagship Agency," designating it an “extraordinary example of excellence in an accredited law enforcement agency.”
