New Eastside Parking Structure Construction Nearing Completion

July 27, 2010

Construction fencing has come down and final touches are being made for the completion of the $24 million Eastside Parking Structure on the east side of campus. Also being completed is the rerouted Folino Drive, the seven-lane southeast entrance to campus. It will now circle the new building, as well as the pedestrian walkway built between the structure and Parking Lot F.

“The roadway was designed for convenient access to the structure, as well as Parking Lot E and surface parking located north of the structure,” said Joseph Ferrer, director of parking and transportation services. “To serve campus visitors, we have established a short-term parking area on the ground level of the structure. The cost will be $2 for one hour and a maximum of two hours for $4. Daily permit parking dispensers are located on levels 2, 4 and 6.”

The six-level facility features approximately 1,500 parking spaces and is similar in design to that of the State College Parking Structure. The facility has light-emitting diode, or LED, lighting that will result in significantly less electricity consumption, said Steven Halcum, project manager. There also is a “bio swale” incorporated into the design of the pedestrian mall to manage water run-off from the parking lot.

The structure was built by Bomel Construction Company Inc., which also built the State College Parking Structure.

“We plan to open two visitor information centers this fall, one on Folino Drive by the Eastside Structure and another on Arts Drive, in front of the Nutwood Structure. Both facilities will provide visitors parking information and directions to their campus destinations,” said Ferrer.
