Greeks Host Weeklong Philanthropic Event
Proceeds Benefit Camp Titan for Underprivileged Children
April 15, 2008

Cal State Fullerton's Interfraternity and Panhellenic councils are gearing up for a week of fun, excitement and entertainment - all to benefit Camp Titan, a summer program for underprivileged children in Orange County. The goal is to raise $15,000.
"One Week, One Goal" is the slogan for the April 15-19 "Greek Week." The week's theme is "Movie Genres."
Events include chalk mural and "Can Castles" contests, intramural-style games such as a relay and egg-on-a spoon races, football and softball matches, along with a "Lip Sync" competition, which showcases acting, dancing, costuming and prop design to create a professional and entertaining production. (See schedule below).
For the "Can Castle" competition at noon April 15, students have collected more than 1,000 canned food items that will be used to create "castles." The cans will later be donated to the Second Harvest Food Bank. Also during the week, Greeks will conduct a coin drive to collect spare change from individuals.
"Greek Week was developed to create spirit and unity within the Greek community while working together towards a common goal of supporting Camp Titan, Cal State Fullerton's student-created philanthropy," said Emilee Hess, Panhellenic Greek Week co-chair and Delta Zeta Sorority member. "The Greek community works together to show support towards the community by raising monetary donations, donating blood, putting on clothing and canned food drives, and by increasing overall awareness for those not as fortunate as others."
More than 750 students who are members of the university's 12 fraternity and sorority chapters, governed by either the Panhellenic or Interfraternity councils, will participate in Greek Week.
Funds raised will go to Camp Titan, which was created through Associated Students Inc. in 1969. The program allows about 150 children to spend a week in the San Bernardino Mountains where they participate in games and other fun activities, discover nature and make new friends.
