Ex-convict Turned Scholar on TV

Former gang member stars in episode of "Secret Lives of Women" this month

Denise Maupin turned away from her gang and drug addiction, kept herself out of prison, completed her bachelor's degree and now is working on her master's degree in sociology at Cal State Fullerton.

We-TV (Women's Entertainment Network) producers have cast the recent graduate in an episode of its "Secret Lives of Women" program. She stars in "Girl Gangs," which airs today at 10 p.m., June 4 at 1 a.m., June 10 at 11 p.m. and June 11 at 2 a.m., Pacific time.

The show follows Maupin and female gang members as they reveal their struggles and survival skills.

"All of us here at Brand New Entertainment feel that Denise Maupin's segment is both touching and inspirational," said Scott B. Morgan, of Brand New Entertainment, which produced the "Girl Gangs" episode.
