VIBE Event Highlights
• Five CSUF students will be awarded “Next Golden Idea” scholarships, funded by a CSUF’s Golden Ideas initiative and sponsors, including Bank of America, Southern California Edison, VietBao newspaper and Quentin Meats. The VietBao scholarship will be awarded in memory of Phu Ngoc Nguyen, a 2005 CSUF alumnus and former McNair Scholar who was a young leader in the Vietnamese community.
• Two CSUF alumni will receive special awards for their contributions to the Vietnamese community: Tien Nguyen, engineering fellow and program chief engineer at Raytheon Company, Space and Airborne Systems, who holds a B.S. and M.S. in electrical engineering from CSUF, as well as two doctorates from other universities; and state Sen. Lou Correa (D-Santa Ana), who earned a bachelor’s degree in economics in 1980.
• Gala performers are singers Nhu Loan and Tu Quyen, both of whom attended CSUF, and pianist Hoang Nguyen, a Cal State Fullerton graduate student working on his master’s in music degree.
• The expo will feature food-eating contests by Pholicious and a fashion show featuring Calvyn Hyp’s ao dai collection, directed by alumna Tracy Pham, who earned a degree in international business in 2003.
• The Vietnamese folk dance group, “Lac Hong,” performs cultural and modern dance at 4 p.m. Oct. 12 and Oct. 13 at the expo.
