Former Titan Named to National Softball Team

Jenny Topping Makes Team for Seventh Season

October 1, 2007

As a member of the Titan softball team, Jenny Topping racked up an impressive list of records and honors:  three-time First-Team All-American, Big West Conference Player of the Year (for three consecutive years) and a Gold Medalist at the Pan American Games. She also holds seven single-season records for the Titans.

Since leaving Cal State Fullerton in 2003, Topping has continued to gain recognition for her skills and effort on the playing field. She was a gold medalist at the 2004 Athens Olympic games, as well as a silver medalist at the World and Japan Cups and a gold medalist at the Pan Am qualifier in 2005.

Just last month, Topping was named to the roster for the 2008 USA Softball Women’s National team. The 2008 team includes 12 gold medalist winners from the 2004 Olympic games — Topping is one — and 15 of the 2006 World Championship team making the roster. During the 2004 Olympics, Topping saw action in four games for the national team, going 4-for-6 for a .667 average.

The 18-member squad — three will eventually be named replacements with 15 nominated to the U.S. Olympic Committee as the official roster for the 2008 Olympic Games — will spend the next year preparing for China and begin a 40-city U.S. tour in February.

The USA Softball Women's National Team has a record of 24-4 over the last three Olympic Games, including an undefeated 9-0 record at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, outscoring opponents 51-1.
