New Titan Card Celebrates University Anniversary and New U.S. Bank Partnership
TitanCard Has a Whole New Look
August 13, 2007
Faculty, staff and students will soon be carrying TitanCards with a whole new look — the university’s 50th anniversary and U.S. Bank logos.
U.S. Bank was recently selected to provide financial services linked to the TitanCard and has opened a branch office on the first floor of Titan Shops. The new partnership provides services for students, faculty and staff members, and will generate funds for the TitanCard program and the campus.
Creating the look of the new card was the responsibility of Larry Wong, a web/graphic designer in information technology. “It was fun,” said the 2000 B.F.A. graduate, who joined information technology shortly after graduation. Wong admits that his biggest challenge was incorporating the 50th anniversary logo with its sweep of stars on the front of the card along with the name, identification number and photo of the cardholder. The U.S. Bank logo will be featured on the backside of the card.
Faculty, staff and students also will have the ability to link their TitanCard to a U.S. Bank account for use as an ATM card. In addition to the branch office at Titan Shops, U.S. Bank is installing two ATMS; a full-service ATM at the branch office and a cash-dispensing ATM in the Titan Student Union.
To get a new TitanCard, faculty, staff and students just have to bring in their old card to the counter located on the first floor of the Pollak Library and a new card will be provided. Without the old card, the replacement fee is $10.
The process to select a new financial institution began in fall 2004 as the contract with Orange County Teachers Federal Credit Union was nearing its final year. OCTFCU’s charter was changed to accommodate the credit union’s new business plan, resulting in making student ineligible for membership unless they were employed on campus, said Susan Lasswell, director of IT’s web design and communications. The OCTFCU service center will remain on the second floor of Titan Shops to meet the needs of its campus members.
U.S. Bank has campus card partnerships with 39 other universities, including San Diego State and Northwestern. The contract with Cal State Fullerton is for five years, with an option to renew for an additional five years.
