The Summer Research Scholars Program

July 24, 2007

Alexandro Gradilla, assistant professor of Chicana and Chicano studies, right, talking to Santa Ana College students Blanca Cruz and Lizbeth Lopez, recently delivered a lecture on “Research in Action.” Gradilla, along with Erualdo R. Gonzalez and Patricia Perez, both assistant professors of Chicana and Chicano studies, were part of the Summer Research Scholars Program hosted by Cal State Fullerton July 11.

The 39 students, recently graduated from Santa Ana College, have been admitted to local colleges. About a third will attend CSUF, another third, UC Irvine, and the rest, other universities, said Mark Kamimura-Jiménez, director of educational partnerships for student affairs.

“This program introduces community college students to research, research methodologies, working on a research team, giving a research presentation and writing research papers,” he said. “The students visited both UCI and CSUF to learn about research resources on the campus and also hear about various research projects from faculty at CSUF.”
