Cal State Fullerton outpaced its fellow Big West Conference teams in the 2005-06 U.S. Sports Academy Directors’ Cup Division I Final Standings announced in July.  

Sponsored by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics and based on team finishes in NCAA post-season competition, the standings weigh every sport other than football. With a third-place finish in baseball, ninth place in women’s soccer and 33rd place in women’s softball, the Titans totaled 217.5 points to tie for 73rd place along with Santa Clara. The only other Big West schools to finish in the Top 100 were Long Beach State at No. 89 and UC Santa Barbara at No. 92.

Stanford finished No. 1 for the 12th consecutive year followed by UCLA, Texas, North Carolina and Florida.

Developed as a joint effort between USA Today and NACDA, the United States Sports Academy Directors' Cup program is the only all-sports competition that recognizes the institutions in each of the four categories – Divisions IA, II, III and with the best overall athletics program.

Cal State Fullerton placed third in the 2006 Big West Conference Commissioner’s Cup competition behind Long Beach and UC Santa Barbara. That contest – among only Big West schools – measures the “average” finish in conference play among the eight Big West schools.  The Titans’ performances in wrestling, women’s gymnastics and fencing are not considered because those are not Big West sports.

Four Coaches Hired by the Titans — All Have Previous CSF Connections

Sports Information has announced that in July four coaches were hired to new positions in intercollegiate athletics and all have previous Titan connections, including being former CSF student-athletes.
           
Joining the women’s basketball staff are new assistants Allyson Alhadeff and Sara Ludwig. Alhadeff is a four-year Titan letter winner who spent the last three years as an administrative assistant to Coach Bob Burton and the Titans’ men’s program. Ludwig played four seasons at Notre Dame de Namur but has served as an administrative assistant to Titan Head Coach Maryalyce Jeremiah.
           
Joining the women’s volleyball staff is Jennifer Adeva. A two-year (1994 and 1996) letter winner for the Titans, Adeva was an assistant at North Carolina-Charlotte for the last two seasons.  
           
Mike Hinojos was promoted from assistant to head fencing coach, replacing the retired Heizaburo Okawa. Hinojos is a former Titan fencer who has served as a volunteer and paid assistant to Okawa. 
    
Searches are underway for an assistant coach in both women’s gymnastics and men’s soccer and for an assistant athletic training position.  A search also is underway to replace equipment manager Cliff Hatter, who retired last week after 32 years on the job.
