Campus Design for Student Union Central Plant is Honored

Cal State Fullerton’s Office of Design and Construction was honored last month at the 2006 UC/CSU Sustainability Conference at the University of California, Santa Barbara.

The university received a Best Practice Award honorable mention for the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning design of the Titan Student Union’s central plant addition that is part of preparations for the Student Research Center. Working with Design and Construction and Physical Plant was Richard Henrikson of Henrikson Owen Engineers.

This is the second year that Cal State Fullerton has received an award for sustainability design. Last year, the university won the Best Practices Award for Overall Sustainable Design for the Fullerton Arboretum Visitor Center.

When completed in 2008, the 95,000-square-foot Student Recreation Center will feature weigh-training, cardio-fitness and group exercise facilities, as well as an indoor jogging track, racquetball and sports courts, climbing wall and outdoor leisure/lap swimming pool, administrative offices and locker/shower rooms.
