Gerard Anderson to Take Part in Slam Dunk Contest

March 24, 2010

From Sports Information

Gerard Anderson

Cal State Fullerton senior forward Gerard Anderson has been invited to compete in the College Slam Dunk Contest held in conjunction with the NCAA’s Men's Basketball Final Four in Indianapolis.

Anderson is one of eight seniors who will make the all-expenses paid trip and compete Apr. 1 in the nationally televised event at 6 p.m. PDT on ESPN. It will be reshown several times as part of “ESPN’s 22nd Annual Slam Dunk and Three-Point Championships,” which include eight men and eight women in three-point shooting competition. The events will be taped at the Indiana Convention Center.

Anderson was a first-team All-Big West Conference selection as a senior and received honorable mention as a junior. The Los Angeles native was a transfer from Saddleback College who sat out the 2007-08 season when the Titans made the NCAA Tournament. He averaged 12 points and six rebounds this past season. His most memorable dunks bracketed the season as he dunked over UCLA’s Nikola Dragovic in the second game of the year on Nov. 16 and then literally jumped over Cal State Northridge’s Vinnie McGhee in the opening round of the Big West Tournament on March 10.

Anderson is the second Titan in as many seasons invited to an event held in conjunction with the Final Four. Last year, guard Josh Akognon scored five points and his Reese’s All-Star team won by five points, 105-100, over the Hershey’s All-Stars in the Hershey’s All-Star Game at Ford Field in Detroit.
