Cal State Fullerton junior Alaina Baker was selected Monday, March 29, to compete in the 2010 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics West Regional April 10 at UCLA.
Baker is one of five individual all-around competitors who will compete against teams from UCLA, Arkansas, Iowa State, Ari'zona, BYU and Arizona State. Baker’s teammate Britni Echeverria, a senior, is the alternate on the uneven bars behind Lida Gehlen of UC Davis.
Baker placed second in the all-around at the Western Athletics Conference Championships Saturday, March 27, with a career-high score of 39.200 to earn first-team All-WAC honors. She also placed second on the vault (career-high 9.875) and floor exercise (9.875). Echeverria posted a career-best 9.85 at the same meet.
This will be Baker’s third regional appearance. As a freshman, she finished seventh in the all-around with a score of 38.90. As a sophomore, she placed ninth with a score of 38.850. This would be Echeverria’s first NCAA Regional appearance if Gehlen cannot compete.
