Helping Nonprofits Succeed
Fourth Annual Summer School for Nonprofits Set for July 14-17 at Cal State Fullerton
June 23, 2009
Grant writing, fundraising fundamentals, nonprofit accounting basics and program evaluation will be among the topics addressed at Cal State Fullerton's Fourth Annual Summer School for Nonprofits, scheduled for July 14-17 in University Hall.
"Strengthening nonprofit capacity is a win-win for the community and the campus," said Kathleen Costello, assistant director of the Center for Internships and Community Engagement. "Tapping into the university's teaching and research abilities to benefit our partner agencies will help them to serve our communities better. And, that will make for richer learning experiences for our students when they are placed in agencies for internships or service learning."
The summer school originally began as a one-day program and has expanded to four days this year to provide more of the information that nonprofit organizations have requested. Last year, more than 260 people from seven different counties attended.
Classes on such topics as promotion, negotiation strategies, preparing for performance reviews and managing through difficult times are among this year's offerings. A highlight of this year’s lineup will occur on Wed., July 15 with the Association of Fundraising Professionals' day-long conference on philanthropy: “Change and Challenges—Fundraising in Turbulent Times.”
Cal State Fullerton's Center for Internships and Community Engagement, The Gianneschi Center for Nonprofit Research and Wells Fargo are the event sponsors.
Program cost is $85 for any one day, $140 for two days or $200 for three days with discounts for members of co-sponsoring nonprofit associations. (The first day is free.) For more information, call 657-278-3746 or visit www.fullerton.edu/NonprofitSummerSchool.
