Honoring Mom
Mother's Day at the Fullerton Arboretum
April 28, 2009
Celebrate Mom and Motherhood this year with two special May 9 events at the Fullerton Arboretum. Bring a picnic lunch then share in the fun of a “Mother's Day Fairy Garden Baskets” classes held at 9 and at 10 a.m. In the afternoon, the Victorian Society offers “Winding the Maypole” at the historic Heritage House.
Fairy Garden Classes
In this class, participants will design and create a miniature garden with small plants, pretty rocks and tiny decorations. Instructor Jan Brider will show examples of the limitless variety and impromptu intrigue that can be created.
Cost is $35 for Friends of the Fullerton Arboretum members or $40 for non-members and includes basket, soil, rock and all other supplies except plants. Prepaid registration is required by Monday, May 4.
Winding the Maypole
Dancers in Victorian costume will share the delights of “Winding the Maypole" during a special 1-4 p.m. demonstration put on by members of the Victorian Society, one of the Arboretum's docent support groups.
After the demonstration, audience members of all ages can take part in the dance before learning about the history of the spring custom. Heritage House will be open for walk-through tours with costumed docents available in each room to share the history of the historic Fullerton home and former doctor's office. Rarely viewed Victorian clothes from the Heritage House collection will be on display.
Visitors interested in becoming docents or learning more about the Victorian Society will have the opportunity of talking about volunteer opportunities within the Victorian Society during this event. Lemonade and popcorn will be served.
