Grand Central Art Center Celebrates 10th Anniversary With Special Exhibition

Marking its 10th anniversary next month, Cal State Fullerton's Grand Central Art Center will celebrate with "Retrospective Anniversary Exhibition."

"The Treasures of Long Gone John," by artist Long Gone John, was exhibited at the Grand Central Art Center in 2007. Pieces from that exhibit will be included in the center's 10th anniversary display.

The exhibit, which will run from Feb. 7 through April 12, will feature highlights from more than 200 past exhibitions. It includes works by artists Mark Ryden, Jeffrey Vallance, Robert Williams and Camille Rose Garcia.

The Grand Central Art Center, located at 125 N. Broadway in Santa Ana, is the result of a partnership between the university and the city. Grand Central Art Center is a mixed residential, commercial and educational complex. The 45,000-square-foot, three-level structure contains live/studio spaces for visual arts graduate students, the Grand Central Gallery, the Project Room, the Grand Central Theater, Watermark Printmaking Workshop, the Gypsy Den Café, a rental and sales gallery and classrooms, as well as studio and living space dedicated to the center’s international artist-in-residence program.

Santa Ana community activist Don Cribb and Cal State Fullerton Gallery Director Mike McGee originally conceived the Grand Central Art Center in 1994 as the anchor and catalyst for a 10-square block area in the heart of downtown Santa Ana, designated as the Artists Village.

This exhibit,"Local Motion," by artist Laurie Hassold, was featured at the Grand Central Art Center in August 2007. Pieces from that exhibit will be included in the center's 10th anniversary display.

The public is invited to the exhibit's free opening reception Feb. 7 from 7 to 10 p.m. Another free public reception is planned for March 7.

The center is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Sunday and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.
