Fullerton Arboretum Celebrates 30th Anniversary

September 15, 2009

Dining on lasagna will be a special treat for friends and supporters of the Fullerton Arboretum as they commemorate the botanical garden's 30th anniversary Friday, Oct. 16.

Thirty years ago, on Oct. 21, 1979, campus and community members celebrated the beginnings of the Fullerton Arboretum with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. During the early years, Arboretum supporters and volunteers created a special lasagna recipe that was often served at fundraising functions. This recipe became very popular.

To recognize those early efforts to support the development of the garden, the anniversary dinner will feature the traditional lasagna with bread, salad, complimentary wine and soft drinks, and dessert. A cocktail hour at 5 p.m. will precede dinner and music will be provided by the Festive Strings. Additionally, a historical presentation and introduction of past and present “VIPs” will complete the evening.

The cost for this dinner is $20 per person. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 657-278-4010 or sending an email to dianeking@fullerton.edu.

The Fullerton Arboretum, encompassing 26 acres at the northeast corner of the Cal State Fullerton campus, is the largest botanical garden in Orange County. It features a permanent collection of more than 4,000 unusual plant species from around the world. For more information regarding programs, events, classes and activities, call 657-278-3407 or visit www.fullertonarboretum.org.
