On the Up and Up About CSUF’s Upward Bound
July 23, 2007
“Nobody in my family has gone to college. I’ve always wanted
to go, but I didn’t know I could make it until now. Through Upward
Bound, I’m getting experience and learning how college really is.”
— Griselda
Andres, 15, Century High School, wants to be a surgeon
“It’s a little scary because of the fact that your parents
aren’t here. It’s also hard for our parents to let us go. But
it’s a good experience because we’re living here on campus
and we have our own responsibilities. I’ve learned that even though
college is not easy, you can never give up.”
— Monica
Moreno, 16, Century High School
“Being here is helping me visualize my future… what I want
to be when I grow up. Here, the staff members are role models. If they
can go to college, I can do it too. I just need to work hard.”
— Alexis
Alegria, 15, Saddleback High School, wants to be an engineer
“Upward Bound is giving me the chance to advance in high school
by taking college prep courses now. But the best part is making new friends.
By being together here, we can help each other succeed. I’m just
grateful for this program.”
— Manuel Ramos,
14, Santa Ana High School, wants to be a graphic artist
“This program has helped me deal with separating from my parents,
so when I go to college it won’t be so difficult. It’s also
helped me to explore my career and college options.”
— Sal
