Projects to Help Students Succeed At CSUF

Retention Initiatives Now Being Sought

September 4, 2007

Faculty and staff members with ideas on how to improve the retention and graduation rates of students, as well as to increase collaboration between campus divisions and departments are invited to send in proposal for a Campuswide Retention Initiative.

Deadline for submitting proposals to respective deans and directors is Sept. 28. Projects selected for implementation will be announced late in October after review by the president.

Highest priority for funding will be given to project that target students in:
     • Majors or academic concentrations where academic probation and disqualification rates exceed the campus average;
     • Retention activities target specific segments of the student population with the lowest retention and graduation rates; and
     • Academic courses with higher than average repetition or failure rates.

Priority also will be given to
    • programs or strategies that provide support services currently unavailable to the general student population;
     • actions and strategies focused on facilitating graduation at the baccalaureate level; and
     • proposals with collaboration with other departments, offices or schools on campus.

Proposals that increase the use of technology to support or increase student learning also are welcomed.

For more information about the application project or guidelines for the Initiatives, call Sylvia A. Alva in Academic Programs at 278-3602.
