Campus Ambassador
Business Student Becomes Face of Professional Organization
Senior business administration major Anthony Kress has a lot of work on his hands this semester. In addition to his accounting and finance courses, his position as past president of Beta Alpha Psi and service in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program, Kress has become the campus face of the California Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Kress is serving as a campus ambassador for the statewide organization, reaching out to share with others the opportunities and rewards they can receive by becoming involved with CalCPA.
“I saw an opportunity whereby students could join the society for free and have been recommending that my fellow students join even before I became an ambassador,” said Kress. When he learned about the organization’s Campus Ambassador pilot program, it seemed natural for him to get involved. “I actually asked if our school could be put on the list of schools for the trial part of the program.”
The ambassador pilot program was launched last fall at 12 universities throughout the state. The ambassadors’ responsibilities are to help increase awareness of free student membership, improve the visibility of CalCPA and help local chapters add connections between professional members and future CPAs. Each ambassador receives a $500 stipend to cover expenses related to their ambassadorship.
“For students it’s a win-win situation,” said Kress, whose career goals are to become a CPA and help low-income individuals and families. “They can become involved in a professional organization, have opportunities to network, and will get familiar with their careers.”
