Tami “Sunnie” Foy was appointed interim director of the Office of Research Development effective July 23. Foy, who had served as coordinator of the university's Office of Grants and Contracts from 1995-1998 and as director of human resources and budget for student affairs from 1998-2000, has been grants manager for Compton Unified School District from 2003-2011 and a faculty member at Azusa Pacific University prior to her return to campus.
Alina Mircea-Trotz was appointed the new director of development for the College of Humanities and Social Sciences effective Aug 1. Mircea-Trotz previously served as director of development with the Pacific Chorale in Santa Ana.

William Van Muse was appointed associate dean for the Irvine Campus effective July 9. He has previously served as director of MBA programs in Mihaylo College of Business and Economics.

Cari Elofson, Environmental Health and Safety, received the Safety Professional of the Year Award from the American Society of Safety Engineers in recognition of her work facilitating safety training courses, such as CPR and first aid, for campus employees.
Angel Pineda, Mathematics, and CSUF alumna Emily K. Bice, presented “Cramer-Rao Bound for Models of Fat-Water Separation Using Magnetic Resonance Imaging” at the April Society of Industrial and Applied Mathematics Conference on Uncertainty Quantification in Raleigh, N.C.

Josh Smith, Physics, gave a talk on “Gravitational-Wave Astronomy With LIGO” at the UC Irvine Joint Particle Seminar in February.

Robert F. Castro, Criminal Justice, was a speaker and panelist at the “Borderlands and Latino Studies Seminar: Mini-Conference” held at Chicago’s Newberry Library in March. Castro spoke on “Alien Bodies/Legal Texts: A Forensic and Ethnographic Post-Mortem on Federal Emancipation Dockets in New Mexico (1848/1869).”
Patrick M. Kimani, Mathematics, delivered “Exploring Number Theory Ideas Through Cooperative Problem Solving” at the April National Council of Teachers of Mathematics annual meeting and exposition in Philadelphia.

Dee Dee Kingsbury has been named interim head coach of women's softball. She has served the university for 10 years, the last four as associate head coach.
July 9
Zvi Drezner was named emeritus professor of information systems and decision sciences in recognition of 27 years of service, including nine years as department chair and seven years as a member of the Academic Senate. He was recognized in 2005 with the Lifetime Achievement in Location Analysis Award, the Outstanding Professor Award in 2006 and the CSU Wang Family Excellence Award in 2008.
Louise Adler has been named emeritus professor of educational leadership in honor of 24 years of campus service, including 16 years as department chair. During her tenure, Adler redesigned the master's degree in education with a concentration in educational administration, and oversaw the development of the doctorate of education program, one of the first within the CSU.
Joyce Lee was named emeritus professor of educational leadership for her 12 years of campus service, including the development of the online administrative credential program and courses for the master in education-educational administration and doctorate in education programs. Lee also took part in course development for the online masters in instructional design program.

Students of Scott Annin, Mathematics — Nicholas Blackford, Daniel Lenders and Danny Orton — presented “An Inverse-Based Analogue of the Probability That Two Elements of a Finite Group Commute,” and Ivan Espinosa delivered “New Data and Observations on M&M Sequences” at the April Mathematical Association of America meeting in Fullerton. At the same meeting, Peter T. Ho and Lucy Odom, mentored by Bodgan Suceava, Mathematics, read “Chasles’ Angle Invariance Property of the Helicoid in the Tri-Twisted Real Ambient Space,” while graduate student Carol Kempiak presented “Training Gifted Students: the Fullerton Circle Experience.”

Laura Gil-Trejo was appointed director of the Social Science Research Center effective June 18. She has been serving as acting director since 2008 and served with the center since 2004.
Andy Newman, associate head basketball coach for five years, has been named interim head coach for the 2012-13 season following the resignation of Bob Burton June 22.
