A year in the making, the new potting shed at the Fullerton Arboretum
made its debut last month during a reception to recognize the donors whose
financial contributions of almost $67,000 fully financed the project. Approximately
125 people attended the event, including members of the Dhont family, whose
foundation contributed $25,000.
The facility has since been open to the general public and will celebrate its
official grand opening weekend Oct. 7 and 8.
“It’s by far, the most efficient and professional garden center we’ve
had,” said Mark Costello, manager of the Friends of the Fullerton Arboretum. “It’s
easy to navigate and provides a pleasant shopping experience.”
Among the features of the new facility is the expansion of the retail sales operation,
which offers tools, pottery and accessories, and the introduction of Arboretum
Medleys — a logo brand developed for use on seed packages, bulbs and plants.
It is, according to Costello, “a step toward brand name awareness of what
we do at the Arboretum.”
