Background:

The University Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Kimo Furumoto, is dedicated to the training of outstanding instrumentalists in the performance of a wide range of styles in the orchestral repertoire. In addition to the regular concert series, the orchestra collaborates in performances with the CSUF University Singers, Opera Theatre, faculty and internationally renowned artists. Students have numerous opportunities to study orchestral repertoire in master class settings with CSUF faculty and other musicians from professional orchestras throughout the region.

Kimo Furumoto, associate professor, is music director and conductor of the University Orchestra at California State University, Fullerton. In addition to his collegiate duties he is also music director and conductor with the Huntington Symphony Orchestra (West Virginia). He has appeared as guest conductor with orchestras both in the United States and Europe and has held the associate conductor position of the Cincinnati Symphony Youth Orchestra, conducting assistant with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, and assistant conductor of the Cincinnati Chamber Orchestra. He has worked with noted conductors such as Leonard Bernstein and Robert Shaw. Furumoto holds degrees in conducting from Chapman University and the University of Cincinnati, College Conservatory of Music where he was the music director of the Concert Orchestra.
