Refugee Boat
Pham Ngoc Phuoc and 24 other passengers left Camau, Vietnam by this boat on June 11, 1979. They were attacked seven times by Thai pirates who took all of their belongings and the boat engine. Floating at sea for 25 days, eighteen passengers gradually died, leaving only seven survivors to be rescued by a Thai fishing boat. Pham Ngoc Phuoc was one of them. He happily joined his wife and his daughter who had arrived at the Thai refugee camp several months earlier.
