Carved objects by Nguyen Xuan Ly

Like most of the Vietnamese detainees, Nguyen Xuan Ly sent his love to his wife and his family through beautiful souvenirs he made in a detention camp. He and other detainees would collect pieces of metal from military shoes or airplane wings. They then sharpened the pieces of metal by scratching them against the cement floor during the rare moments when the communist guards weren't watching. At night, the detainees buried the souvenirs. It typically took Nguyen Xuan Ly two years to finish an object.
