Campus Salutes Years of Service
President Milton A. Gordon joined his top administrators in giving praise to the university’s staff members during the June 3 Staff Recognition and Appreciation Day festivities in Portola Pavilion of the Titan Student Union.
The annual event recognized this year’s Outstanding Staff and Titan Excellence awards recipients, staff members who have earned college degrees and staff for years of service.

Among those recognized was Suzanne M. Collea, administrative support assistant for the Division of Politics, Administration and Justice. Collea, who in 1970 had been secretary to the dean of women at Lemoyne College in Syracuse, followed her husband, Frank, to Cal State Fullerton, where the newly appointed professor of science education told his wife of a “great job opening” in the Political Science Department. She applied, was accepted and has been serving the needs of students and faculty members ever since.
Thirty-Five Years:
Aurelio Flores, lead grounds worker of landscaping services, leads a crew of five and is in charge of all landscaping on campus. His wife, Margie, is a member of the campus community and, while his son attended college elsewhere, his three daughters are all Titan alumni.
Tom Grayson, project manager in Design and Construction, joined the campus after serving in Vietnam. The CSUF alumnus (B.A. sociology ’89) began as a custodian, becoming a drafting aide in 1985, a drafting technician in the newly created Office of Design and Construction a year later and a project manager in 1997.
Choi Y. Kam joined the Pollak Library as a library assistant in the cataloging section in 1976. She originally worked on science and technology books, but she now works cataloging all subject area books, especially Chinese language books for the developing language program on campus.
Paul K. Miller, director of Disabled Student Services, has become as known as a dedicated advocate for disabled students on campus, fostering an environment where are supported throughout their educational endeavors. He has served on campus as the police chaplain, directed the Student Athletes Assistance Program and assisted in the coordination of the university's annual Commencement festivities. He has chaired the CSU Disabled Student Services Directors’ Council and represents the council on the CSU Chancellor's Disabled Student Services Advisory Committee.
Douglas N. Temple, a custodian in Physical Plant, begins his day at 3 p.m. but the early hours do not hamper him in doing his job; he is recognized by his managers for his dependability, as well as his willingness to pitch in and help whenever and where ever he is needed.
