CSU Teacher Summit

Preparing Eduators for 21st-Century Classrooms

Cal State Fullerton’s President Milton A. Gordon; Steven N. Murray, acting vice president for academic affairs; Claire Cavallaro, dean of the College of Education; and Robert A. Koch, acting dean of the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, along with teacher education faculty members and other education stakeholders from across the country, attended the Feb. 14 California State University’s Summit on Teacher Preparation in Irvine.

The summit focused on identifying successful strategies for teacher preparation that can be replicated in California and nationally with a special emphasis on equipping new teachers to work with English learners, economically disadvantaged and special needs students, as well as preparing expert teachers in science and math.

Cal State Fullerton’s teacher preparation programs were highlighted at the conference and Victoria B. Costa, director of science education, presented a session about the preparation of science, technology, engineering and mathematics teachers, one of the university’s initiatives for 2010-11.
