Campus Experts Speak
Library Lectures Feature Talks by Faculty and Staff
A number of faculty and staff members will bring history and travel to far off countries to life during fall presentations at the Fullerton Public Library, 353 W. Commonwealth Ave. All talks begin at 7 p.m. except where noted.
- Tuesday, Oct. 4 — Meredith Rivin, associate curator of paleontology at the John D. Cooper Center, will take listeners through the area’s 180 million years of geologic history, from dinosaurs and marine fossils to the more recent past, during her talk, “The History of Life in Orange County: A Trip Through Time.”
- Wednesday, Oct. 5 — Representatives of the CSUF Center for Oral and Public History will provide information about the facility’s programs and projects, as well as some of their most recent historic exhibitions.
- Tuesday, Oct. 11 — Gustavo Arellano, lecturer in Chicana and Chicano Studies, will discuss his memoir, “Orange County: A Personal History,” weaving his family’s story with the history of Orange County and the modern Mexican-immigrant experience. Arellano also will offer insights into a wide range of political, cultural and social issues during his 6:30 p.m. presentation.
- Thursday, Oct. 27 — Benjamin Cawthra, associate professor of history, will focus on “Blue Notes in Black and White: Photography and Jazz,” the connections between photographers, art directors, editors and record producers who crafted a “look” for jazz what would sell magazines and albums.
- Tuesday, Nov. 8 — Kenneth J. Walicki, professor of music, will share “Travels on the Buddhist Circuit in Nepal, India and Tibet.” His talk, part of the library’s Town & Gown International series, begins at 6 p.m.
