Cal State Fullerton Is Seventh in International Student Enrollment

Cal State Fullerton is among the leaders in enrollment of international students throughout the United States, according to an annual report by the Institute of International Education.

Fullerton — with 1,742 international students out of a student population of 36,262 for the year 2009-10 — was ranked seventh in the listing that included eight other CSU campuses in the top 40 master’s institutions listed. The top four institutions were all CSU campuses: San Jose, San Francisco, Northridge and Long Beach. USC was the top university among the top 40 doctorate institutions.

“We value international students on campus because they bring diversity of experiences and perspectives to enrich academic programs and co-curricular activities,” said Lay Tuan Tan, director of international education and exchange. “When international students are integrated into campus culture, we can truly say that Cal State Fullerton is ‘a regional university with a global outlook.’”

The total number of international students at colleges and universities in the United States increased by 3 percent during the 2009-10 year, according to the organization’s Open Doors report published annually by the Institute with support from the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
