Inaugural Class of Students From Collaborative Program To Graduate at
Hong Kong University

print

July 1, 2004 :: No. 2

The inaugural class of students will graduate July 10 from a collaborative program between California State University, Fullerton and Hong Kong University.

The joint program allows students based in Hong Kong to receive a master’s degree in communications from Cal State Fullerton. The 19 students who will be awarded their advanced degrees have earned undergraduate degrees from campuses around the world.

The collaborative program is taught by Cal State Fullerton faculty members who are either serving in Hong Kong or are working with students via the Internet. The two-year program is equivalent to course work completed by graduate students at the Cal State Fullerton campus.

“The value of this arrangement is the flexibility it offers to students who want to receive a higher degree from an American university,” said Fred Zandpour, associate dean of the College of Communications.

Among those scheduled to attend the graduation ceremonies at Hong Kong University are: Cal State Fullerton President Milton A. Gordon and his wife, Margaret Faulwell Gordon, dean of the College of Extended Education at CSU Dominquez Hills; Ephraim Smith, vice president for academic affairs at CSUF; Rick Pullen, dean of the College of Communications; and Zandpour. Hong Kong University (HKU) officials in attendance will include Enoch C.M. Young, professor and director of Hong Kong University’s School of Professional and Continuing Education; S.M. Shen, deputy director, HKU; Michael Y.L. Luk, deputy director and assistant professor; and Ning R. Liu, senior program director.

Several of the students who will graduate in this first class attended commencement ceremonies held May 30 on the Cal State Fullerton campus.
