Guardian Scholars Program Welcomes a Record Number of New Students

print

August 19, 2004 :: No. 24

A record 15 students are being welcomed as Cal State Fullerton’s newest class of Guardian Scholars — promising, college-bound foster youth. The 12 freshmen and three juniors will join 26 returning scholars, when fall semester classes begin Monday.

The incoming freshmen and their majors are: Patrisha Busch of Tustin, international business; Escondido residents Donald Denning, undeclared, and Dorian Duncan, radio-TV-film; Reality Duvall of La Puente, criminal justice; Yorba Linda resident Allen Foster, criminal justice; Ashley Gomez of Riverside, criminal justice; Pasadena resident Tarae Graves, English; Jessica Greer of Modesto, liberal studies; Sean Guthrie of Cerritos, psychology; Temecula resident Lisa Hoxter, English; Brittney Llamas of La Verne, mathematics; and Monterey resident Joy Tehero, biological science.

Continuing/transfer students are: Deserea Legate of Anaheim, psychology; West Covina resident Markus McQueen, communications and radio-TV-film; and Monique Torrez of Merced, criminal justice.

More than just a scholarship, the Guardian Scholars program supports emancipated foster youth in their efforts to gain a college education. A working partnership between the private sector, foundations, public agencies and educational institutions, the program awards scholarships and provides personalized support for ambitious, college-bound foster youth who are making the challenging transition to adulthood.
