CSUF Faculty Voice Opposition
to Ballot Propositions
September 26, 2003 :: No. 51a
Cal State Fullerton’s Academic Senate,
the university’s faculty advisory body, voted unanimously
Thursday to oppose Propositions 53 and 54 on the Oct. 7 ballot.
The resolutions were approved during the senate’s regular
biweekly meeting.
Proposition 53 would establish a constitutional amendment
setting aside a specific percentage of general fund revenues for
infrastructure funding. In the first year of its passage, one percent
would be set aside, with the percent increasing gradually to three
percent annually.
Proposition 54 would prohibit state and local governments
from collecting and using data on a person’s race, ethnicity,
color or national origin for the purposes of public education, contracting
or employment.
