Before landing his first film role, Costner recounted working for three years
as a custodian at a studio. “I was willing to be a janitor, but only
if the trash I took out was movie trash,” he said. “I was following
my path.”
He told stories
about meeting Richard Burton on his honeymoon, exchanging waves with his parents
while directing “Dances With Wolves,” and his life as a father and
husband.
In between answering questions about
his career and the creative aspects of acting and directing, he sprinkled in
advice and observations about life: “You’ll need to listen to your
inner voice” and “There’s no blueprint for success . . . What’s really interesting
is how you’re going to do it.”
