University to Host World of Credit Workshop

print

Updated September 25, 2003 :: No. 49

What: Cal State Fullerton’s Center for Economic Education is hosting “World of Credit,” a workshop for high school economics instructors. The program will present basic economic concepts mandated by the California History/Social Science Standards with an emphasis on economic reasoning, math, reading and financial literacy.

When: 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1

Where: Room 304 of Langsdorf Hal, Cal State Fullerton

Additional: The workshop material — developed by the California Council on Economic Education, in partnership with Household International — will lead participants through a series of nine vignettes that illustrate basic economic principles using stories that are relevant and applicable to teenagers. Each lesson includes questions and activities designed to help students understand the role of credit in the economy and prepare them to use credit in today’s marketplace. The Center for Economic Education at Cal State Fullerton is one of eight centers at CSU campuses offering the program this fall.

Background: The Center for Economic Education is part of Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics. Its purpose is to provide technical economic education services to improve the level of economic understanding in grades K-12, institutions of higher learning and the surrounding community. In addition to consultations and workshops, the center offers stock market simulations to schools in the area.

Registration: Space is limited and reservations are required. For more information, call Barbara Sideri at 657-278-2249 or bsideri@fullerton.edu.
