Actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith
will give the keynote address March 1 to open a series of discussions,
music and theater performances, films and lectures in celebration
of Women’s History Month at Cal State Fullerton. |

What: |
“Intersections in History: Gender,
Race, Performance” is the theme of this year’s
celebration. “We have lined up a wonderful calendar of
events to celebrate women in politics, art, film, literature,
music and theater,” said Renae Bredin, coordinator and
associate professor of women’s studies. “Although
Women’s History Month is only one month of the year, the
idea is to encourage thought and discussion on issues pertinent
to women throughout the rest of the year.” |

1-2:30 p.m. Anna Deavere Smith
lecture. Named “The Most Exciting Individual in American
Theater” by Newsweek in 1993, Smith currently plays National
Security Advisor Nancy McNally on NBC’s The West Wing.
2:30-3:15 p.m. Book Signing & Reception.
Smith will sign copies of her books, which will be available
for purchase, including “Twilight: Los Angeles 1992.”

and doctoral student at UCLA.

in Black Protest” to acknowledge women who have
