print

February 12, 2004 :: No 148

What: Cal State Fullerton’s Center for Economic Education will present the award-winning National Council on Economic Education program “Financial Fitness for Life” to 6th- through 12th- grade teachers. The workshop will provide information that educators can incorporate into their own classroom presentations.

Who: Teachers from Orange County and Los Angeles schools have been invited to attend the free program.

When: 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28

Where: Room 315B of Langsdorf Hall

Why: “This program promotes financial literacy among students of all ages, with emphasis on everyday money-management issues,” said Chiara Gratton-Lavoie, director of the Center for Economic Education. “We believe that students in California need to be trained in economic thinking to make intelligent choices. Knowing how to make sound financial decisions and understanding how the economy works is more important today than ever.”

Additional:

All participants will receive a copy of the “Financial Fitness for Life” teacher’s guide, a CD-ROM and student workbook. The workshop is sponsored by the Bank of America Foundation and the California Council on Economic Education.

The Center for Economic Education, under the direction of Gratton-Lavoie, is part of Cal State Fullerton’s College of Business and Economics. Its purpose is to provide economic education services to improve the level of economic understanding in grades K-12, institutions of higher learning and the surrounding community.

In addition to consultations and workshops, the center offers a 10-week stock market simulation for high school students attending schools throughout the Southland.

Register: Instructors interested in participating in this workshop are invited to call Barbara Sideri of the Center for Economic Education at 657-278-2249 or bsideri@fullerton.edu.
