Cal State Fullerton to Host El Toro Community Block Party Aug. 16

What: One year after welcoming the first crop of students to the university’s new El Toro Campus, Cal State Fullerton is hosting a community block party to mark the occasion: “El Toro 60 Years Later: From Defense to Education – From Airport to Academics”
   
When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
Saturday, Aug. 16
   
Where: El Toro Campus
7320 Trabuco Road, Irvine (off Sand Canyon Road, north of I-5 freeway)
   
Activities: Face painting, games, food and carnival booths are planned, along with live music, tours and historical photo displays. Faculty and staff members will greet visitors and answer questions about classes, admissions, financial aid and alumni activities.
   
Noon Program: “Cal State Fullerton’s El Toro Campus: A Vision for the Future”
Featured Speakers: Congressman Edward R. Royce (CSUF Class of ’77), Orange County Supervisor William Campbell, El Toro Campus Director George Giacumakis, Executive Vice President Judith Anderson and Academic Affairs Vice President Ephraim Smith
   
Community: Participants mounting displays and staffing information tables include the Great Park Conservancy, Irvine and South Orange County chambers of commerce, Transportation Corridor Agencies, Fullerton Community Bank, Continuing Learning Experience and community colleges.
   
Background: Since the branch campus opened last fall, enrollment has grown from 2,255 to 2,677. This fall, more than 3,000 students are expected for dozens of courses offered, ranging from biology to teacher education.
