CSUF to Host Conference on
Improving Corporate Reporting and Governance

Who/What: William Ezzell, chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, and Jonathan Sokobin, deputy chief economist, Securities and Exchange Commission, are the keynote speakers for “Improving Corporate Reporting and Governance: A Road Map for the Future” sponsored by Cal State Fullerton’s Center for Corporate
Reporting and Governance.

Speakers: Other participants include: Robert Fisher, financial economist, Office of Economic Analysis, Securities and Exchange Commission; Don Marlais, special counsel, Public Company Accounting Oversight Board; Dean Samsvick, managing partner, KPMG Orange County Office; Jack Shaw of the Shaw Group LLC; David Wambold, controller, Beckman-Coulter; Randall Wick, general counsel, Emulex; and Sam Burke, partner, and Dean Yoost, managing partner, Orange County office, PricewaterhouseCoopers.
   
Additional: The conference is designed for executives, financial analysts, lawyers, bankers, accountants and investment advisers interested in learning more about the future of the accounting profession and current issues, including implementation of Sarbanes-Oxley and sound corporate governance practices. Participants will receive 16 hours
of CPE credit.
   
Background:

The Center for Corporate Reporting and Governance was established earlier this year within the College of Business and Economics to disseminate information on current financial reporting issues and interpretations of financial rules, as well as to publish the results of studies sponsored or conducted by the center.

Training seminars for corporate executives, audit committees and boards of directors are planned, as well as workshops and other events to enhance the financial literacy of investors.

   
Center Director: Vivek Mande, CSUF professor of accounting and a 2001-02 Academic Accounting Fellow at the Securities and Exchange Commission’s Office of Economic Analysis in Washington, D.C., is the center director. He teaches courses in financial accounting and auditing and has conducted research on auditor independence and earnings quality. Mande is an associate member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants and earned his doctorate in accounting from UCLA.
