Looking to keep the kids busy this summer?

Cal State Fullerton’s University Extended Education and Recreational Sports offer several alternatives to a summer spent watching television or playing computer games.

For children who are artistically inclined, or would like to be, the UEE’s popular Art Camp is back. The two-week program explores the concepts and methods of various art techniques. Art Camp for youngsters ages 7-12 is offered in three all-day sessions: June 23-July 3, July 7-July 18 and July 21-Aug. 1. Art Camp for teens is offered in two all-day sessions, July 7-July 18 and July 21-Aug. 1.

For children hoping to get a head start on the next school year, UEE offers a number of classes in math, including “Pre-Algebra Basics” 9-11 a.m. July 7-11, “Algebra I” 9-11 a.m. July 14-18, “Getting Ready for Geometry” 9-11 a.m. July 21-25, and “Introduction to High School Geometry” 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. July 7-11. “Creative Writing and Grammar Skills” is offered Aug. 4-15 on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. - noon.

For youth in the 7-12 age bracket, the two-weeklong Mind and Body Yoga Camp is offered Aug. 4-15. From 9 a.m. to noon, attendees will learn simple yoga poses and mental exercises and participate in creative play.

Recreational Sports offer three programs under the heading of Titan Youth Sports Camps: Sports, Learn to Swim and Gymnastics camps. Full- and half-day sessions are offered through early August for children in kindergarten through eighth grade.

The Learn to Swim Camp is certified by the Red Cross and offered in 10-day sessions with 30 minutes of instruction per day. Start dates are June 30, July 14 and July 28. Start times vary by experience level.

Gymnastics Camp is a weeklong, full-day camp that runs Aug. 11-15 and offers instruction on all the Olympic gymnastics events.

Costs for Titan Youth Sports Camps also vary by program, but discounts are available for multiple session enrollment. To receive information about enrollment call 657-278-3978 or log on to http://asi.fullerton.edu.

Both UEE and Titan Youth Sports camps offer extended child care options before and after programs.
