Background: |
The University Women's Choir
is a large, 95 member, non-select ensemble that serves both
music majors and non-majors. Under the direction of Vance
D. Wolverton since 1989, the choir was selected in 1994 and
1998 to perform at the Western Division Convention of the
American Choral Directors Association and has performed twice
for the California Music Educators Association annual conference
in Ontario in 2000 and Pasadena in 2002. The choir performs
a wide variety of repertoire representing all historical periods
and styles.
Vance D. Wolverton, serves as chairman
of the Department of Music, conducts the University Women’s
Choir and sponsors the CSUF student chapter of the American
Choral Directors Association. Wolverton holds the B.A., Magna
cum laude, with high honors in music from Wayne (Nebraska)
State College, and the M.A. and Ph.D. in music education from
the University of Iowa. He currently serves as a member of
the City of Brea Cultural Arts Commission.
Robert M. Istad, director of the Men’s
Chorus, has prepared choruses for Esa–Pekka Salonen
and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Pacific Symphony Orchestra
the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. Istad received his B.A.
in music from Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois,
his M.M. in choral conducting from Cal State Fullerton, and
is currently completing the final requirements for the his
DMA in choral music at the University of Southern California.
He’s also music director for the Irvine United Congregational
Church.
